Ru Ru's Tacos & Tequila
A quick Charleston beer stop at Ru Ru's Tacos & Tequila where a Pacifico, a Corona Light, and one useful bartender recommendation sent the night in the right direction.
Ru Ru’s Tacos & Tequila is not the sort of stop you mythologize for its own sake. It is the sort of stop you remember because it did exactly what a place like this should do: gave you a cold beer, a little room to breathe, and the piece of local intelligence that sent the rest of the night somewhere better. In Charleston, that can be worth more than an ambitious menu ever will be.
The order tells the story plainly enough. A Pacifico and a Corona Light is not the move of somebody trying to decode a beverage program or chase revelation in a glass. It is the move of somebody keeping things light, practical, and social while deciding what comes next. That restraint actually suits Ru Ru’s. The place sells tequila, margaritas, and a full Mexican-leaning menu, but on this visit its real value was not excess. It was utility with good timing.
And then there is the bartender, who apparently understood the assignment better than most concierges ever do. Asked where to go, they pointed toward The Griffon. That is the kind of recommendation that gives a place character. A lot of bars want to trap you in their own orbit. Better bars know when to hand off the night. Ru Ru’s, in this version, comes off less like a final destination than a smart waypoint staffed by somebody who knows the map.
That is enough. Not every stop needs to change your life. Sometimes a place earns its keep by handing you two beers and the right next address before you overthink things, and Ru Ru’s Tacos & Tequila sounds like it understood that perfectly.
